Method v4 · independent consumer guidance

How Livalyo reaches a decision.

For each smartphone, tablet or TV, assisted research gathers sourced facts, an independent check verifies them, then rules calculate the scores and the outcome.

Six scores, six separate perspectives

Each score answers a different question and keeps its own coverage. Prices do not change any score.

Longevity

What it measures. Deterministic guidance for keeping, repairing or replacing, on a 0–100 scale.

What it does not measure. It is neither a guaranteed lifespan nor a failure prediction. Prices and customer reviews never enter this score.

Editorial repairability

What it measures. An editorial index out of 10, separate from the regulatory repairability index and the longevity score.

What it does not measure. Parts or guide availability does not establish coverage of every component or successful repair. A manufacturer declaration never becomes an independent test.

Declared resilience

What it measures. An editorial index of declared resistance and support, out of 10.

What it does not measure. It is neither a lifespan prediction nor an independent test. IP digits are ordinal, not proportional physical measurements.

Customer feedback

What it measures. Published merchant satisfaction for the exact product, normalized from its 1–5 scale to a score out of 10.

What it does not measure. It is not a durability test, repair score or representative population estimate. No coefficient compensates for assumed complaint bias.

Durability index (TVs)

What it measures. The official French durability index, calculated and declared by the manufacturer, published on data.gouv.fr and reproduced on its 0–10 scale.

What it does not measure. It is neither a Livalyo test nor a lifespan prediction. Its reliability and repairability sub-indices remain facts and are not recombined.

TV editorial score

What it measures. An editorial index of the commitments and documentation published by the manufacturer, out of 10, separate from the official index.

What it does not measure. Neither a test nor a failure prediction: a published manual does not guarantee a successful repair. It is never combined with the official index.

“Provisional” labels the scores concerned. A partial score carries an asterisk, its coverage and its missing criteria.

01

Product facts

Every published fact is tied to public evidence: a manufacturer page, a regulatory text, an official database or a cited third-party source.

02

Repair, support and prices

Repairability, software support and prices are read separately. No price enters a score.

03

A clear recommendation

The result explains whether keeping or replacing makes more sense, with practical reasons.

04

Confidence and limits

Documented facts, evidence confidence and missing information stay visible, along with their limits.

Keep / repair

Keep using the current device. Repair can be part of this path when it remains sensible.

Replace

Change device when support, condition, repairability or longevity make keeping it less sensible.

Decision unavailableA data status, not a third recommendation.

Missing information is neither guessed nor turned into a favourable value. It remains visible as unknown and reduces the scope of the conclusion.

Research editorial scores

Each score is independent of longevity and prices. It runs from 0 to 10 and states its coverage: below 50 % no value is shown; from 50 % to 100 % an asterisk marks a partial score. An unknown value is never counted as zero.

Declared resilience

Declared resilience: support, battery cycles, repeated drops, water and dust protection. These are declarations, not a service life prediction.

Editorial repairability

Repairability: disassembly, fasteners, documentation, compatible genuine part. The regulatory index keeps its own scale.

Customer feedback

Customer feedback: satisfaction published by the review sites, with no new average. It is not a durability test.

Durability index (France)

Durability index: the official French index, declared by the manufacturer and published as open data, shown on a 0 to 10 scale. A television without a published index has no score.

TV editorial score

TV editorial score: announced support, announced spare parts, repair manual and professional documentation. At least two known criteria, otherwise no score. It stays separate from the official index.

Partial score

Partial score: calculated from the known, proven criteria only, with its coverage and the missing criteria. It predicts neither longevity nor a failure rate.

What the method does not claim to know

Limits are part of the result

We prefer a more cautious conclusion to invented precision. When an important element is missing, it should remain visible.

Missing data

Some specifications, support dates, measurements or prices may be missing. They reduce coverage instead of being silently estimated.

Personal context

The actual condition of your device, your usage, its age, battery life, energy use, noise, size or budget constraints can change the practical choice.

Not a universal truth

The recommendation is a decision aid based on published data. It does not replace a repair diagnosis or your own judgement.

Commercial independence

A commercial offer should never make the decision for you

Offers, merchant links and any commissions appear after the decision and remain separate from the longevity calculation. They can help you act, never manufacture the outcome.

Prices, promotions, commissions and commercial priorities never influence the longevity score.
